Bringing Big Screens to Where the Heart Is: Why I Started LokCinema | By Mohit Dhawan, Founder & CEO of LokCinema

Growing up in New Delhi and studying at Delhi University, my life has always revolved around the magic of storytelling. Working across the Indian film industry as a writer, director, and producer—and founding Logixila to manage line production and casting for film banners across the country—I have seen firsthand how much passion, sweat, and artistry goes into making a film for the big screen.
Yet, the deeper I went into the business of cinema, the more one glaring contradiction bothered me: India is the largest film-producing nation in the world, and our people share an unmatched love for movies—but access to the actual big-screen experience is deeply unequal.
The Screen Deficit Beyond the Metros In major metropolitan hubs like Delhi, Mumbai, and Bengaluru, audiences have multiplexes within a fifteen-minute drive. But step outside the metros into India’s heartland—into our vibrant tier-2, tier-3 towns, and rural districts—and traditional cinema halls have either shut down over the last two decades or were never built at all. Millions of passionate film lovers are left watching stories made for theatrical scale on five-inch smartphone screens, stripped of the communal joy, sound, and larger-than-life emotion that only a shared big screen can deliver. That realization inspired me to start LokCinema.
Starting in Bihar: Building a Community-Driven Exhibition Network Our mission at LokCinema is simple: "Bringing Big Screens To You." Instead of waiting years and spending crores to build brick-and-mortar multiplexes where ticket prices price out local families, LokCinema is building a structured, community-driven cinema exhibition network that brings the theatrical experience directly to the people. We launched our initial public screenings in Bihar—a state with an extraordinary cultural appetite for storytelling and music, yet one of the lowest screen-to-population ratios in the country. Watching hundreds of people gather together, laugh together, and experience the collective magic of a big screen in their own community proved what we always believed: the audience was never missing; only the infrastructure was.

The Road Ahead for LokCinema For filmmakers, producers, and distributors, LokCinema unlocks a massive, untapped audience footprint beyond traditional theatrical circuits. For local communities and brands, it turns cinema back into what it was always meant to be—a shared cultural celebration that brings people together. We started in Bihar, and we are building for all of India. If you are a filmmaker, distributor, brand partner, or community leader who believes that every town deserves the magic of the big screen, connect with us at www.lokcinema.com. — Mohit Dhawan Founder & CEO, LokCinema | Founder, Logixila | IMDb | LinkedIn | Instagram
